Earlier this week, it was revealed that actor and musician Sam Lloyd - best known for playing lawyer Ted Buckland in the hit sitcom Scrubs - had died at the age of 56.
The news was confirmed by his uncle, representative, and Back To The Future star Christopher Lloyd.
Lloyd's passing comes a little over one year after he welcomed his first child, Weston, with his wife Vanessa. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and lung cancer back in January 2019.
Now, Vanessa has shared a statement with the Metro and other news outlets, revealing her husband's cause of death, as well as a message to his fans for their messages of support. She said:
"Sam passed away peacefully at 10:30 on April 30, 2020 as a result of complications from lung cancer.
"Our family is devastated. It doesn’t feel real. It never will. It just feels like he will walk through the door.
"The overwhelming outpouring of love and sharing your stories about working with or knowing Sam keeps his memory alive and our hearts strong.
"Sam loved his work. I want to continue his legacy, and hope to share some of the beautiful songs he was working on for his musical and our son, Weston."
Lloyd's Scrubs co-stars also took to social media this week to share their memories and tributes to the late actor.
Zach Braff - who played the show's lead character JD - lead the tributes for his late co-star, writing on Twitter:
"Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I’ve ever had the joy of working with. Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy."
Braff shared another tribute to Lloyd, posting a picture of a classic Ted scene from Scrubs:
Sarah Chalke, who played Elliot Reid on the show, wrote: "Oh Sam...I feel so lucky I got the chance to know and work with you. You were [the] kindest, funniest man. Sending so much love to your family. Rest In Peace."
Chalke also shared a video of The Blanks playing their cover of Outkast's 'Hey Ya', along with the caption: "We love you Sam Lloyd".
Donald Faison, who played Turk on the show, said he would "always treasure" the time he spent with Lloyd, writing on Instagram: "Rest In Peace Sam. God bless your family. I’ll always treasure our time together singing, playing basketball, laughing, working, and partying. You’re a true gem."
Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence also shared his thoughts on the late star, writing: "Thinking a lot about Sam Lloyd today. (Ted). Truly such a kind, sweet guy. He will be missed by so many."
Lawrence then shared another tweet, saying that he had spent the night watching some of Ted's best moments: "Spent the night watching clips of Sam (The songs! The greatest sweaty pratfall of all time!) Those who reached out, our “Scrubs family” appreciates it - he had the biggest heart of all of us. But now send all those good thoughts to his family. And to your own loved ones. #RIPTed"
Robert Maschio, who played Todd in the hit sitcom, wrote: "Simpler times, happier days, the kindest man I ever met. Easy going Sam, Rest In Peace. #RIPSamLloyd"
Kate Micucci, who played Ted's love interest Stephanie Gooch on the show, wrote that is was an "honor" to play Lloyd's on-screen girlfriend. She said:
"So sad to hear the news about Sam Lloyd. Sam was one of the warmest, funniest and most generous actors I’ve ever worked with. I loved getting to sing with him and it was an honor to play his girlfriend on Scrubs. He will be so missed."
News of Sam's terminal diagnosis was revealed by Scrubs producer Tom Hobert and his wife through a GoFundMe. At the time of writing, the fundraiser has raised $178,000 of its $100,000 target.
Our thoughts are with Lloyd's family, friends, and fans at this time. Thank you for all the laughs, Sam.
