Selena Gomez has explained why she can never get pregnant, and why it would put her life "in jeopardy".

In a vulnerable new interview with Vanity Fair, the 32-year-old actress opened up about the challenges she faces with her medical condition.

“I unfortunately … have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy,” Gomez disclosed. “That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

The singer and actress, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2013 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017, acknowledged that this was the first time she had publicly discussed her inability to carry a child.

“It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it,” she said, adding: “I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone.”

Despite the initial sadness, Gomez explained that she has come to terms with her situation and is exploring other avenues to become a mother.

“I’m in a much better place with that,” she shared. “I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.”

She expressed her gratitude for the alternatives available, saying: “It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different.”

Gomez concluded with a heartwarming sentiment: “At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

The Only Murders in the Building star has previously shared her desire to start a family, telling Time magazine in May that she planned to adopt by age 35 if she was still single.

Currently, Gomez has been dating record producer Benny Blanco since July 2023. Blanco, 36, recently revealed his own aspirations for fatherhood during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.

“That’s my next goal, to check the box... I love being around kids,” he said, though he remained tight-lipped about any potential proposal.

Gomez responded to his comments with humor, recalling in her Vanity Fair interview: “I was dying laughing. Like, ‘Anything else you wanted to put out there?’”

In the interview, Gomez also gushed about her relationship with Blanco, describing him as "a light in [her] life" and her "best friend." She added, “I’ve never been loved this way. … I love telling him everything.”

Gomez has recently reached Billionaire status, largely due to her successful makeup brand, Rare Beauty, which she founded five years ago.

Bloomberg estimates her worth is around $1.3 billion.
