Selena Gomez has embraced a scar she has on her inner leg in an empowering new photograph recently posted to Instagram.
The 28-year-old took to the social media platform to share a stunning picture of herself in a swimsuit, in which she shows her inner leg scar - a legacy of the kidney transplant she underwent.
In a powerful caption, Gomez discussed how she had previously been reticent to show the scar in pictures, opting to wear items of clothing that covered it. Now, though, she says she is feeling more confident than ever, and hopefully her empowering post can help others embrace and love the skin they're in.

She wrote:
"When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar. I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up.
"Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through...and I’m proud of that. T - Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that...all bodies are beautiful."

And her fans were full of support in the comments section of the post.
"Can't be much more prouder" One commenter wrote, while another added, "Everyone of us loves and adores you sel".
A third fan wrote, "I’m so proud of you my girl".
Gomez has previously spoken about the body-shaming she was subjected to while suffering from serious health issues. Speaking to Raquelle Stevens for her video podcast Giving Back Generation, Gomez went into detail about how the hateful comments affected her body image.
"I experienced [body-shaming] with my weight fluctuation for the first time," she said. "I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me that’s when I really started noticing more of the body image stuff. It depends on even the month, to be honest, so for me I really noticed when people started attacking me for that."
The singer and actress also said that being scrutinized by the media and the public "got to me big time" and "really messed me up for a bit."
