Selena Gomez has taken to social media to show off her radical new look - ditching her traditional brunette bangs for dazzling platinum blonde locks.

The 'Good For You' singer originally posted her new look on her Rare Beauty Instagram page, along with the caption: "New look. Need to pick new Rare Beauty lip and blush shades now".

And after that post amassed over 500,000 likes in less than 24 hours, Gomez also shared the look to her Stories on her official Instagram page, which currently boasts an eye-watering 222 million followers.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Selena Gomez’s hair colorists of over a decade, Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, confirmed that the transformation is not a wig - and eight hours in total to complete.

They said: "We’ve been doing Selena’s color for over a decade now. She typically keeps it pretty natural, but this time she went for a big change.

"This blonde is unique to her as we had to make sure there was an equal balance of cool and warm for her skin tone. It’s an edgier look and perfect for summer.

"The entire process took 200 foils, several bowls of bleach and eight hours of hair magic! Definitely worth it! Her hair looks and feels amazing!"

In the now-viral shot, Gomez can also be seen wearing a t-shirt featuring a retro design of herself - which is available here.

But this isn't the only time the 28-year-old has ditched her trademark dark tresses.

Per Cosmopolitan, Gomez adopted a similar look back in 2017 following the end of her relationship with fellow musician The Weeknd.

As you can see from the image below (captured at the American Music Awards in LA), Gomez tends to prefer the blended roots look when switching to a lighter shade.

Rare Beauty is Gomez's own makeup company, which says it is dedicated to "breaking down unrealistic standards of perfection".

On the website, Gomez writes: "I think Rare Beauty can be more than a beauty brand — it can make an impact. I want us all to stop comparing ourselves to each other and just start embracing our own uniqueness."
