Television personality and businessman Simon Cowell has been hospitalized after breaking his back while testing an electric bicycle at his home in California.
A representative for Cowell, 60, told People: "Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery this evening."
Another spokesperson for Cowell told Deadline:
"Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family.
"He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He's doing fine, he's under observation and is in the best possible hands."
The music mogul was reportedly testing the new bike in the courtyard of his Malibu home prior to the fall.
Deadline added that Cowell is currently under observation in hospital and is said to be fine.
However, Cowell was scheduled to return to our screens next week with the first live show of the new series of America's Got Talent due to air on Tuesday (August 11).
Per the Mirror, Cowell took full control of America's Got Talent and The X Factor after he bought out Sony Music Entertainment's stake in the popular TV talent shows.
Cowell is currently in a long-term relationship with girlfriend Lauren Silverman. The couple have a six-year-old son together named Eric.
Back in May Cowell told People that he had been spending time with his family during the pandemic, saying:"We definitely have more family time together now. We watch movies in the evening, play together, read books, comics, everything.
The famed TV judge also revealed that he had taken up cycling as part of his exercise routine. Opening up about his fitness regime, he said: "Cycle, walk, swim, push-ups. I haven't cheated on my diet. I feel really healthy at the moment."
We wish Simon a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on our screens soon...
