Steve Harvey has been called out by Miss Universe viewers after asking a "ridiculous" question to one of the contestants.
As the final sixteen competitors appeared in the closing rounds of the prestigious international beauty pageant, each was given the opportunity to discuss their accomplishments.
All except Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu, who was instead asked by host Harvey about her unique - albeit, rather trivial - party trick.
The 64-year-old iconic presenter asked her: "I hear you do some pretty good animal impersonations. Let's hear your best one."
Sandhu immediately looked taken aback by the request, telling Harvey: "Oh, my God, Steve, I was not expecting to do this on the world stage."
"I have to do this, I have no other option," she adds, before asking the audience to "brace themselves" as she prepared to do an impression of a cat.
She then started meowing. Admittedly, it was some very good meowing, but the bizarre moment left some viewers scratching their heads.
Why? Well, because Miss Great Britain Emma Collingridge was asked about how educating herself on Medusa's origin story inspired her to fight against gender-based violence and Miss Panama Brenda Smith was given the opportunity to discuss her position at the UN.
As a result, some viewers took to Twitter to call out Harvey for not giving 21-year-old Sandhu a meaningful moment on the stage, given that she is a women's-empowerment advocate who has worked alongside her mother to help educate people about women's hygiene and health at camps.
One viewer tweeted: "OMG Miss India meowing at Steve Harvey is not what I was expecting to see tonight. Pretty sure the Miss Universe organization could have asked a better question… very frustrating but she was nothing if not confident."
A second added: "What a ridiculous first question was that? Miss India had so much more to say… #MissUniverse2021".
"Steve Harvey really had Miss India meowing on the world stage bruh #MissUniverse," a third tweeted.
However, despite being put on the spot and literally meowing in front of the world, Miss India went on to win the entire competition and was crowned Miss Universe.
According to The Independent, Sandhu is now the third Indian woman in history to win the title of Miss Universe, following in the footsteps of Indian actors Lara Dutta in 2000 and Sushmita Sen in 1994.
