Suzzanne Douglas dead at 64 as fans pay tribute to The Parent ‘Hood actress

Suzzanne Douglas has passed away at the age of 64.

Per Daily Mail, the death of the actress, who was best known for her roles in The Parent 'Hood and When They See Us, was first made public by journalist Roland Martin on Twitter.

Martin tweeted on Tuesday, July 6: "Sad news...actress @suzzannedouglas has passed away. Several of her family members [confirmed] on Facebook that the longtime actress has passed away at the age of 64.

"Many remember her as @larenztate's mom and @joethemorton s wife in The Inkwell."

In a follow-up post, Martin added: "She was very involved in @dstinc1913. Prayers for her family. We will pay tribute to her Wednesday on #RolandMartinUnfiltered. [sic]"

Meanwhile, Moore wrote on Facebook: "I got to stand beside greatness. Suzanne Douglas Cobb, I love you, dear lady. Thanks for always checking on me and for showing me elegance and grace walking.

"I’ve got a heavy heart, but I’m blessed to be a part of the legacy you touched. I am better because I knew you.
Heaven is richer."

On Twitter, a number of fans of Douglas have paid tribute to the late star.

One person stated: "Sad to hear, she was a tremendous actress, and a crush of mine and im sure many other rip. [sic]"

Another wrote: "So sad. I grew up watching her on The Parent 'Hood with Robert Townsend and Reagan Gomez. Sending love to her family and friends."

A third added: "I didn't want to believe this, I still cannot believe it!"

Finally, another wrote: "OMG I am so sorry to hear this! There wasn't a role I didn't enjoy her in. Awful news.
Peaceful journey."

Born in Chicago in 1957, Douglas was the youngest of four children raised by a single mother on the South Side and began her career as a performer in the 1980s.

She made a number of appearances on the soap opera Guiding Light before her feature debut as Amy Simms in the 1989 film Tap, alongside Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr.

However, Douglas was best known for the role of Jerri Peterson in The Parent 'Hood, which ran on The WB for four seasons from 1995 to 1999.

Daily Mail reports that she is survived by her longtime husband and daughter.
