The Weeknd has shocked his fans by removing the bandages he sported late last year to show off a drastic new look in his latest music video.
The 30-year-old 'Blinding Lights' singer sported facial prosthetics to create the illusion of extreme plastic surgery in the new music video for his track 'Save Your Tears'.
The video, which premiered Tuesday, is from The Weeknd's After Hours album.
This comes after the singer left fans momentarily concerned at the American Music Awards in November when he appeared on stage with much of his face and head wrapped in bandages.
You can watch The Weeknd accepting his award with his head and face wrapped in bandages right here:"But then you saw me, caught you by surprise," he aptly sings in the new video featuring him with a thinned (and crooked) nose, bloated cheeks, puffed-up lips, and surgery scars among other disturbing new features.
Watch the video for 'Save Your Tears' below:Unsurprisingly, fans were very much shaken by the singer's drastic new look, and they took to social media to express their shock.
"Why does The Weeknd look like that in the Save Your Tears music video!?! I don't like it," wrote one horrified fan on Twitter.
Another joked at the after-effects of the prosthetics with a line from the singer's 2018 hit 'Can't Feel My Face', writing: "i bet he really cant feel his face now [sic]."
Meanwhile, a third fan speculated that the singer had chosen such a dramatic look to throw "shade" at the Grammy's for his lack of nominations.
But Michael Jackson comparisons aside, other social media users suggested that The Weeknd could now take up alternative lines of work thanks to his new appearance, like portraying the Batman villain The Joker.
The New York Post reports that they reached out to The Weeknd's representatives to discover whether or not his dramatic new look was the result of prosthetics or CGI, but they did not immediately respond.
The news outlet, however, did not that the singer is no stranger to the use of prosthetics and previously worked with Prosthetic Renaissance, who have taken credit for the music video transformation on social media.
This dramatic new look comes prior to The Weeknd's performance at the 2021 Superbowl, which will take place on February 7.
