The widow of ‘The Wire’ actor James Ransone has opened up about her five months of single parenting since her husband’s death.
Jamie McPhee shared a post on Instagram for her son’s 7th birthday, thanking her friends and family for helping her raise the couple’s two young children.
In tribute to her son, she said, “Baby king Jack is 7 today. 😭 I can’t believe it.”
McPhee described Jack as “the most handsome, stubborn, funny, affectionate, strong boy.
She added, “We wouldn’t want it any other way. Love you to the moon and back!”
Thanking those who have supported her through the extremely difficult time, saying, “To all of our friends and family – it takes a village indeed. We love everyone so much. Thank you for all your support, love, kindness, food, tears, and laughs these last 5 months.”
McPhee ended her caption on the picture post of the family of four, saying she “can finally see that every day is a gift” after losing her husband.
James Ransone died by suicide in December, aged 46, leaving behind his wife of eight years and two young children.
Shortly after his death, McPhee shared a heartbreaking tribute to her spouse, thanking him for giving her “the greatest gifts”: their two children.
She added, “We are forever.
“I told you I have loved you 1000 times before, and I know I will love you again.”
A GoFundMe page was created after Ransone’s death to help McPhee and her kids “navigate life after an unimaginable loss.”
It has currently raised over $251,000.
Speaking to Interview Magazine in 2016, Ransone opened up about his struggles with addiction in his 20s.
Reportedly, he got sober aged 27 “after being on heroin for five years.”
Ransone said, “I woke up at 27 after being on heroin for five years. It was like I sobered up and I realized, “My job is being an actor. This is crazy!”
