Tom Brady has cracked a joke at the White House about people who deny that Joe Biden won the November 2020 presidential election.

Super Bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, were honored at a ceremony on Tuesday, July 20, and Brady took the opportunity to mock those who believe that Biden's 2020 win was not legitimate, CNN reports.

"Not a lot of people think that we could have won. In fact, I think about 40% of people still don't think we won. You understand that, Mr. President?" Brady said and the crowd laughed.

Biden replied: "I understand that."

Brady went on to joke about a 2020 game against the Chicago Bears when he forgot what down it was "and they started calling me Sleepy Tom" - a reference to President Donald Trump's "Sleepy Joe" smear against Biden in the leadup to the election.

The Buccaneers' victory was Brady's seventh Super Bowl win, but he skipped the 2017 White House visit on account of family matters.

However, the star was the subject of controversy in the leadup to the 2016 election when a "Make America Great Again" hat was seen in his locker after a game, CNN reports.

Brady also skipped a White House visit under Barack Obama's administration.

Yesterday's event was the first time that the Super Bowl champions have paid a visit to the White House since 2017.

Biden said the team is a testament to the fact that it's "never too late to come together and achieve extraordinary things."

The president also paid tribute to the team's coach Bruce Arians, who is the oldest coach to ever win the Super Bowl, and added: "You won't hear any jokes about that from me."

Biden noted the efforts the team has made to help communities "after such a tough year" caused by the pandemic.

He then turned to the audience and appealed to those who had not yet been vaccinated against Covid-19 to do so, saying: "Get one, get one."

Coach Adrians also had the opportunity to speak and praised the team for the sacrifices they made to get on the pitch during the pandemic.

"If you have those, you'll have accountability, and you'll be able to do anything you want," he said and turned to Biden to say: "I hope the Senate and the House start helping you. One team, one cause."
