In the last couple of years, our opinion of male celebrities has gone way down, but no matter how bad things get, it seems like we can pretty much always depend on Tom Hanks.
You've seen a Tom Hanks film, you've probably loved several; from Splash and Turner and Hooch, Forrest Gump and Toy Story, all the way up to the Post last year. He'll go down in history as one of Hollywood's greatest-ever actors, and not only that, he seems to be a genuinely nice guy to boot.

I'm not just talking smiling in interviews or handing out autographs, either. Tom Hanks will show up when you least expect it, and when he's not photobombing you or requesting selfies, he's helping an entire patronage at a random burger joint to pay for their meals.
If you happened to be hanging out a franchise of In-N-Out located in Fontana, California, earlier this week, then there's a very good chance you were dining at the same restaurant as Tom Hanks.
He was hanging out there on his downtime with his wife and two kids, and when you come across most celebrities outside of their natural habitat, they're very reluctant to give you the time of day, instead wanting to preserve the little privacy and rest that they get. Tom Hanks is not most celebrities.
That's what the entire restaurant found out in the best possible way, when Tom Hanks chatted with fans young and old alike, and of course, when the time came, he was more than game for a few selfies. And then, once everyone's social media aspirations had been sated, Tom Hanks went around the back to the drive-thru, and paid for everyone there too!
"Thanks for lunch... he's in Fontana people," said Facebook user Renee Chavez, and uploaded a video to Facebook just in case you didn't believe her the first time.
"I had the absolute honor of meeting the one and only Tom Hanks and his beautiful wife Rita Wilson today! The coolest people I’ve ever met!" said another Instagram user, posting to the social media site with his selfies.
"He is such a nice guy taking pictures with everyone….he told us Merry Christmas… And I went over and talked to his wife Rita while Tom took pictures with everyone!" added another Instagram user, while another spoke to E! News and confirmed everything we'd just seen on social media.
"Tom signed In-N-Out hats and took pictures with everyone. He was genuinely nice, laughing, talking with everyone and taking selfies! He wished us a Merry Christmas on his way out."
Look, guys. It's been a long, tough year, and I don't know about you, but Tom Hanks has made the last 12 months slightly more bearable not only with his movies, but with his general kindness too. Looking forward to seeing him in 2019, where he'll be reprising his famous role as Woody in Toy Story 4.
Can't wait.
