Last week, Hollywood legend Tom Hanks revealed that he and wife Rita Wilson have both been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

The 63-year-old Oscar-winning actors revealed in an Instagram post that the pair sought medical advice after experiencing symptoms of a cold while in Queensland, Australia.

Writing to his seven million followers, Hanks said:

"Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

"Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

"We’ll keep the world posted and updated.

"Take care of yourselves! Hanx!"

Later that day, Tom and Rita's son, Chet, also took to Instagram to explain that despite the "crazy" news regarding his parents, they were both doing "fine".

Now, while undergoing isolation at Gold Coast University Hospital in Queensland, the Forrest Gump star has left his Australian supporters baffled after posting his most recent health update to social media.

Taking to Twitter, the actor shared a snap of a toy kangaroo and two pieces of toast covered in Vegemite.

Hanks accompanied the picture with the words: "Thanks to the Helpers. Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Hanx".

However, Aussie followers just could not get over the absurd amount of Vegemite Hanks had plastered on his toast, and it wasn't long before they were providing the star with some best practices.

Australian-based writer Jane Caro tweeted Hanks, saying: "Dear Tom, that’s lovely but you spread the vegemite way too thick! The secret to vegemite toast is 1/3 vegemite to 2/3 butter maximum! And add smashed avocado for extra awesomeness."

And Matthew Thomason replied to Hanks' post, saying: "Tom, I mean this with all the respect and love in the world, but that is too much Vegemite."

Sally Sara, a journalist at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation paraphrased an iconic Forrest Gump line, tweeting: "'Life is like a tube of Vegemite. Don't try it all at once.'"

Hanks and wife Wilson, also 63, are currently staying in Australia as he films his upcoming Elvis Presley biopic on the Gold Coast. In an earlier update, the pair said they are taking, "one day at a time".

The Academy Award-winner wrote on Instagram: "Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us.

"We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness.

"We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx"
