Tom Hiddleston is engaged to Zawe Ashton, People has confirmed.

Hiddleston, 41, and Ashton, 37, were costars in the 2019 Broadway revival of Harold Pinter's play Betrayal, which tells the story of an affair that unravels in reverse.

Hiddleston played Robert, whose wife Emma (played by Ashton) enters into an illicit affair with his best friend (played by Charlize Cox).

The loved-up pair made their red carpet debut at the Tony Awards in September, where Betrayal was nominated for four gongs. The Marvel actor was nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of the character.

There was speculation over the weekend that the couple was engaged after Ashton's appearance at the 2022 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) - her left hand suspiciously adorned with a beautiful ring.

Hiddleston, who had dated pop megastar Taylor Swift in 2016, told The Telegraph in 2017 that he prefers to keep details of his romantic relationships under wraps.

"Everyone is entitled to a private life," he said. "I love what I do and I dedicate myself with absolute commitment to making great art and great entertainment, and in my mind I don't conflict the two. My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life. And those two things are separate."

Meanwhile, Ashton has confessed that for the foreseeable future she does not see herself starring opposite her man again.

Speaking to The Mirror, she said: "I've been working with Tom on stage for a solid year – every night – so now we need at least two years apart now."

As for her beau, in 2021, he reprised his role as Marvel's God of Mischief for Disney+'s Loki. It centers around the title character's conflict with the Time Variance Authority and follows the events of the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame.

Speaking about the character's future, Hiddleston told EW last year: "I'm open to everything. I have said goodbye to the character. I've said hello to the character. I said goodbye to the character [again]. I've learned not to make assumptions, I suppose. I'm just grateful that I'm still here, and there are still new roads to explore."
