Did it ever cross your mind that there might be more than one way of pronouncing the word 'microwave'?

Personally speaking, I can safely say that such troubling thoughts had never entered my brain. That is, until today.

That's because British TV chef and bonafide national treasure Nigella Lawson has confounded social media with her incredibly extra - and let's face it, utterly fabulous - pronunciation of the word.

Witness Nigella's bizarre pronunciation of the word "microwave" for yourself right here:

It all began during an episode of Nigella's new BBC cooking program, Eat, Cook Repeat, when the chef informed her baffled viewers that she had pre-warmed some milk in the microwave.

However, rather than the chatter being about yet another doubtlessly delicious Nigella Lawson recipe, social media was abuzz with comments on Nigella's pronunciation of the word "microwave".

"Eternally grateful to Nigella Lawson for letting us know we've all been mispronouncing microwave for the last 50 (or so) years." One Twitter user wrote, alongside a clip of the moment in question.

"Oh man, we're a microwave-free house but I'm tempted to get one just to pronounce it Mee-Cro-Wah-Vay! I love @Nigella_Lawson, she's an OG and was one of my first cooking teachers on TV!" Another commenter added.

"Nigella Lawson saying 'Microwave' like this has made my Christmas already" Another Twitter user wrote.

"From this day onwards, I will only call it a mîcrowàvé #Nigella" A fourth commenter added.

"Nigella Lawson calling a microwave a me crow wavea lives in my head rent free" another confounded commenter wrote.

And in a stunning turn of events, Nigella herself later confirmed that she wasn't merely trolling the internet during a primetime cookery program and that she genuinely does always pronounce microwave that way. One Twitter user wrote to the TV chef, asking:

"Hey @Nigella_Lawson my friend @faayza and I are genuinely curious do you actually say microwave like that or was that for the show? Dying of laughter here"

Nigella's response?

"I always say it like that!"

Just when you think you've seen it all during this strangest of all years, 2020 has thrown another curve-ball our way. I'll never look at a microwave in the same way again.
