Vera Wang has opened up about being shocked when a photo she posted of herself at her Miami home wearing a sports bra went viral back in May.

On May 3, the 71-year-old celebrity fashion designer took to Instagram to share a photo of herself posing in an orange sports bra.

Wang showed off a slender figure and an impressive set of abs in the photo, which currently has 33,134 likes.

Needless to say, a number of Wang's fans couldn't get over the gorgeous photo.

One person took to the comments to write: "Show stopper!!! Perfection! I would love to meet her. I guess that would never happen."

Another fan was desperate to know: "Do you have a book on what you eat to stay looking so young?"

In an interview with People magazine, Wang revealed that she "was totally shocked" by the response to the snap.

She added: "To be perfectly honest, the real goal of that picture was [to feature] the hair clips I had in my hair. And hair clips don't exactly show up that well in a picture.

"So we really had to minimize whatever I was wearing and to keep the focus on my hair and those crystal clips. And the fact it became about my Palm Angels workout top was so crazy."

Much of her career has been spent behind the camera so Wang has always seen herself as a "creator" rather than "the subject matter."

"So it was sort of shocking. I can't lie to you," she added.

The fashion mogul explained that her workouts aren't a daily activity - instead, they're sporadic.

"I would say [it's] sporadic. Sporadic is the perfect word," Wang revealed.

Wang told People that she was an "elite athlete" in her youth. She was a competitive figure skater and a dancer at the Balanchine School of American Ballet.

"I think when you spend the first 16 years of your life that physically engaged, there is such a thing that it sort of stays with you," she added.
