People have been left shocked after Michelle Trachtenberg was left out of the In Memoriam segment at the Oscars.

On February 26, the 39-year-old star was found "unconscious and unresponsive" in bed at her Manhattan apartment by her mother, Lana, according to law enforcement sources cited by TMZ.

Emergency responders were called to the scene, but Trachtenberg was pronounced dead upon their arrival.

“It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away. The family requests privacy for their loss,” her representative, Gary Mantoosh, said in a statement.

Born on October 11, 1985, in New York City, Trachtenberg began her career in entertainment at just three years old.

She gained early recognition for her role on The Adventures of Pete & Pete before achieving mainstream success as the lead in Harriet the Spy (1996).

She later became a household name as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl.

Her film credits include EuroTrip, Ice Princess, and 17 Again, cementing her status as a key figure in early 2000s pop culture.

Given that she made quite a large mark in the entertainment industry, fans are a little confused as to why the Oscars appeared to overlook her passing.

The In Memoriam segment honors those who have passed in the last year, as stars such as Maggie Smith got the acknowledgment they deserve.

But people couldn't help but notice that Trachtenberg wasn't featured.

"Why no Michelle Trachtenberg in the In Memoriam? She should be there," one person posted on X.

Another said: "No Tony Todd or Michelle Trachtenberg is embarrassing."

A third added: "Is anyone freaking p*ssed that they didn’t Michelle Trachtenberg in the memoriam?!! Super messed up."

The segment started with Morgan Freeman honoring his friend Gene Hackman, who sadly passed away recently.

Freeman began by stating that he has "lost a dear friend" and described him as a "generous performer" whose "gifts elevated everyone's work".

The legendary actor noted that Hackman will be remembered for his work and "so much more," before he concluded: "Rest in peace my friend."
