A video showing the moment David Letterman reduced Lindsay Lohan to tears has resurfaced on social media this week.
Per The Metro, the interview in question was conducted on Letterman's talk show back in 2013.
But now, the footage has come under fresh scrutiny after a Twitter user called Trey Taylor shared a two-minute-long long clip of the segment.
Taylor captioned the footage: "This Lindsay Lohan interview on David Letterman in 2013 is horrifying to watch now."

In the video, the acclaimed talk show host can be seen questioning the Freaky Friday actress about her substance abuse problems, asking why she isn't in rehab.
Letterman states: "Aren’t you supposed to be in rehab now? What is on their list? What are they going to work on when you walk through the door?"
A visibly-uncomfortable Lohan replies: "We didn’t discuss this in the pre-interview."
She then adds: "I’m the happiest when I’m working. This is an opportunity for me to focus on what I love in life. I don’t think it’s a bad thing."

In the video, which has accrued more than 10.6 million views as of the time of writing, Letterman then continues to question Lohan about her drinking habits despite her seeming reluctance to discuss addiction and recovery on-air.
Lohan ends the interview by stating: "We're here for a movie. Let’s stay on the positive."
Now a number of outraged Twitter users have taken to the comments and taken Letterman to task for his perceived insensitivity towards Lohan.

For instance, one person wrote: "Omg. I've never [seen] this. This is monstrous."

A second commenter wrote: "Good for Lindsay, for not being [quiet] and let David make fun of her. Never enjoyed people making fun of people struggling with substance abuse: including making fun of Ana Nicole Smith, and Courtney Love. We are so perfect to judge the others, right?"

Another person wrote: "This is sooo sad!!! when did we allow the media to destroy legends and treat them like that? I’m sorry Lindsay, Britney, Amanda, Janet, Whitney and more! Legends deserve better! [sic]."

Meanwhile, another outraged viewed stated: "This is vile on so many levels. The misogyny. The blindsiding. The stigma of addiction & rehab. The hypocrisy of wanting people to recover, but then judging how they choose do so.
"I hope Lindsay Lohan knows how loved she is. The world has treated her and many others so unfairly."

Another viewer chimed in: "This was hard to watch. The way the media tears women apart and calls it entertainment is disgusting."

Another added: "True. We don't allow them to be human beings in the first place. Their existence is solely based on how much we care to either worship or deride them. It seems like a living hell to me."

Another person chimed in: "Our culture is f**ked up. We invest so much time and energy into building up fame. When a celebrity experiences a personal setback from something beyond their control like a diagnosed substance abuse disorder we seem to relish their downfall. It's pathological really."

Finally, another commenter added: "This is disgusting! And the laughter from the crowd makes my skin crawl. @lindsaylohan you handled this like the pro and beautiful soul that you are. These women all deserve apologies. [sic]"

However, other Twitters suggested that Taylor's post had been edited to paint Letterman in the worst possible light, with one person writing:
"People are pointing out that Letterman made Lohan cry, but OP’s clip edits out what he said that made her tear up. It’s rather deceiving. Here is the end of the segment."

The Twitter user pointed out that some vital context for the incident appeared to have been left out from the interview, with Letterman praising Lohan for withstanding his hard questions at the end of the segment, which was what actually made her cry in the first place.
