An update has shed light on what happened to Michael Jackson's chimpanzee, Bubbles, after years of silence surrounding the famous chimpanzee..
Bubbles rose to international fame thanks to his owner, the King of Pop, who cared for and traveled with the primate for nearly two decades.
From the 1980s until 2003, the beloved animal was more than just a pet to Jackson - he was a cherished companion, accompanying the iconic singer on business trips and even learning to perform the 'Thriller' musician's iconic “Moonwalk.”

Michael Jackson Gave Up the Chimpanzee in 2003
The bond between the 'Billie Jean' superstar and Bubbles ended abruptly in 2003 after Jackson became a father.
According to reports, at that time, the Chimpanzee had started to behave in ways that concerned Jackson and made him fear that the animal might pose a danger to his children.
Due to this, the 'Man in the Mirror' musician made the difficult decision to give up Bubbles.
In 2005, Bubbles retired from show business and found a new home at the Center for Great Apes in Florida.
This facility provides a sanctuary for retired or rescued primates.
Now 42 years old, the chimpanzee is in the prime of his life, weighing around 185 pounds and leading his ape group as their leader.
Though Bubbles’ caretakers describe him as a "shy and private" individual, his playful side continues to shine as he reportedly enjoys interacting with visitors in his new home, often splashing them with water or playfully throwing sand at them.
Bubbles’ Artistic Talent
The facility revealed that the chimpanzee has developed a new and surprising hobby in his later years: painting.
Animal psychologist and behavior therapist Michael Benke shared in an interview that the reason some apes can produce colorful artworks is because they are "capable of learning and very strong in imitation".
“In some ways, they are superior to us in terms of reflexes and what they can perceive with their senses," he said.
“Let’s assume the ape had a trainer, or Michael Jackson himself had an interest in painting. Then it’s quite possible that the ape picked up painting if they did it together often.”
Despite no longer being in Jackson’s care, Bubbles continues to live comfortably.
His art supplies and food are generously provided for by Jackson’s estate, ensuring that he is well taken care of for the rest of his life.
Additionally, the 'Bad' singer's dedicated fanbase sends the monkey treats like mangos and coconuts, as well as blankets to keep him comfortable, per Hello! Magazine.
In March, the Center for Great Apes celebrated Bubbles' 20th anniversary at the sanctuary with an Instagram post, writing: "While Bubbles may be our most famous resident, he’s spent the past two decades enjoying the simple joys of being a chimpanzee - climbing, foraging, and spending time with his chimpanzee friends.
"Since arriving at our sanctuary, Bubbles has truly thrived."
"He enjoys peaceful days lounging in the Florida sun, expressing his artistic side through painting, and relaxing in his favorite spots.
"At 42, he’s a dignified and gentle presence in his group, known for his calm nature and love of enrichment activities," they added.
