Wiz Khalifa, the American rapper, has landed himself in hot water online after he made a stupid comment on a radio show about eating bananas.
Wiz, who was on the show to promote his new album, Rolling Papers 2, spoke about a variety of things, from his newfound love of martial arts, his new music and, of course, eating fruit.
Known for his passion for marijuana and his skinny, heavily-inked frame, Wiz Khalifa gained international success with his breakthrough single Black and Yellow. However, since then, his career has rather plateaued and not much has been heard from the rapper over the past few years.
But, not one to fulfil the stoner stereotype of sitting on your ass doing nothing, Wiz has instead gone and built an extremely muscular frame, something which he spoke about during the interview with the Breakfast Club, saying that he found MMA and Muay Thai to be both physically and mentally rewarding.
"It's a good release, it helps me clear my mind. The whole fight community, they're really welcoming."
While Wiz wasn't known for his love of exercising, he claims to have completely transformed his life and now commits most of his week to MMA training.
"I train 5 days a week and you don't want to be hungover, so I only drink a little bit now."
However, while his attitude towards getting fit might be commendable, Wiz's attitude when it comes to eating fruit - and bananas in particular - is just downright stupid.
Appearing on the radio show last week, Wiz began the interview by talking about his favourite fruits, saying that he only eats an apple if it's chopped up. Then, the subject turned to bananas and the rapper said: “If you bite a banana, you sus. N***as gotta break the banana in half, pause.”
Host Charlamagne tha God instantly queried his stance, calling the rapper out on being ridiculous, but Khalifa remained adamant, adding, “You gotta break it in pieces, bro.”
Continuing his tirade against men who eat bananas, Wiz later said that the one piece of life advice he’d give to a girl is, “Watch these n****s that don’t be eatin’ a banana the right way.”
Understandably, given that it's an extremely dumb thing to say, Twitter was awash with people mocking Wiz Khalifa and questioning his fragile masculinity.
The comments come after the rapper was recently accused of racism (as reported by The Korea Times) regarding a lyric on his song “Hot Now." The song, which is off of his latest album, includes the lyrics, “Smoke got my eyes lookin’ Korean.”
When asked about the article on The Breakfast Club, Wiz responded, saying that he is not racist and that it's ridiculous that people might think that he is. “Chill out, I’m not racist. I love all races. I have Korean friends who are not offended, so I don’t know those people who are saying that. My art is up for interpretation.”
Don't worry Wiz, we'll keep the bananas to ourselves. You enjoy your chopped up fruit like a child you are.
