Chris Pratt has been slammed by social media users who felt that he intentionally left Anna Faris out of his Mother’s Day tribute.
On May 14, the 43-year-old Guardians of the Galaxy star took to Instagram to post a picture of himself with wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, 33, mother-in-law Maria Shriver, 67, and mom Kathy Pratt.
"Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers out there," Pratt wrote in the family portrait. "Especially grateful today for Katherine. You're a wonderful partner. You've provided me such a blessed life."
The Hollywood star went on write that his two daughters - Lyla, two, and Eloise, who will turn one soon - are "so lucky" to have Schwarzenegger as a mom.
Check out Pratt's post below:Not only did Pratt seemingly snub Faris - to whom he was married for eight years before they decided to divorce in August 2017 - but he also called Schwarzenegger "the best stepmama" to his 10-year-old son Jack, who he shares with his 46-year-old ex-wife.
The Super Mario Bros actor also expressed gratitude to his own mother for providing "such love and light and laughter" throughout the years, before referring to Maria as "Mama G".
"I'm lucky to have you as a mother-in-law," he added. "And to all of the other moms in my life, I'm so grateful for all you do- thank you so much."
The tribute amassed over 400k likes and was flooded with several comments from people who took issue with the fact that he did not explicitly mention the Scary Movie actress.
One fan wrote: "That’s not right, I’ve lost so much respect for you and the fact of NOT ACKNOWLEDGING your first child’s mom bc the fact that she’s doing more with constant doctor visits and has been there for your 1st child the least thing you could do is thank her as the mother of YOUR 1st child. It automatically shows the ignorance on your behalf."
Another user said: "That was very nice recognition of the mothers in your life, wife, mom, mom-in-law, however, it would not have killed you to acknowledge the mother of your first child by [name] like really!"
A third commented: "I literally wished my exs wife a happy Mother's Day today. Like why wouldn't you if you have kids in a blended family? Everyone saying I wouldn't wish my ex a happy ___ yall are toxic asf."
Amid the backlash, Pratt's defenders came out in full force and pointed out how the actor's message included a line recognizing "all of the other moms" in his life, including Faris.
One fan had his back and wrote: "Jesus Christ people. He said all the moms in his life, he doesn’t have to spill it out. He doesn’t have to mention anyone if he doesn’t want to. Grow a pair."
A second person interjected: "First being attacked for being a man of the faith, and now for not celebrating his ex? The straws people will grasp just to attack Chris is overwhelmingly sad, go outside and get off of social media please."
A third said called out the "double standards" of the actor receiving criticism while Faris has "never made a Father's Day post about him after they broke up either".
"If it's your ex-partner you shouldn't have to include them in anything unless you see fit. I'd do the same," they added.
This isn't the first time one of the Parks and Recreation alum's Instagram posts has sparked an internet debate. Two years ago, online users thought that he was being insensitive to Faris - who delivered their son in a premature birth - when he applauded his current wife for giving him a "gorgeous healthy daughter" in a love letter.
"She helps me with everything," he wrote on Instagram. "In return, periodically, I open a jar of pickles. That's the trade. Her heart is pure and it belongs to me."
Pratt later addressed the negative comments he received for that post and told Men's Health last year: "My son's gonna read that one day...and it's etched in digital stone. It really f***ing bothered me, dude. I cried about it."
