Christina Ricci has gotten candid about raising her son to be a feminist in a new interview with The Guardian newspaper.
The 42-year-old actress was being asked about her work-heavy 2022, which saw her star in the survival thriller series Yellowjackets, as well as in the Netflix reboot for the character who made her famous, Wednesday Addams.
In the interview, Ricci discusses Hollywood's obsession with youth, telling the outlet: "In my mind, I look the way I did at 27. I have this very nice filter over myself. So looking at realistic pictures all the time is a little bit of a mindf**k.
"I'd love to just go through life believing this delusion that I still look 27. It wouldn't harm anyone!"
The Addams Family Values star then added that she wasn't worried about the youth of the future - including her one-year-old daughter Cleo and eight-year-old son Freddie, the latter of whom "won't be able to avoid" being a progressive modern man because of his mom and stepdad.
"My husband, Mark, is, I hate to say it because it sounds really obnoxious, a feminist. And Freddie is going to see that, and see his working mother. I think he'll see women in a much more layered, complicated way, just by having grown up watching his mom do all this stuff," she said.
Ricci even added that her son's innocent questioning has helped her see many things in a different light. "He's asking questions like, 'Mom, is that racist?' Or, 'Mom, is that OK for women?' He's got this whole thing about not calling objects - like boats - she. He'll correct me: 'Women are not objects,'" she revealed.
Ricci was previously married to film producer James Heerdegen, with whom she shares son Freddie.
The pair were married for seven years before Ricci filed for divorce in 2020. The following year, the actress obtained a domestic violence restraining order against him - per PEOPLE, Ricci stated in her filing that she had been subjected to "severe physical and emotional abuse" by Heerdegen with "many of these acts of abuse" taking place in front of their son.
Since 2021, Ricci has been married to celebrity hairdresser Mark Hampton, and the pair share one-year-old daughter Cleo together. The couple raise both children together, after having agreed with Heerdegen on a shared custody arrangement.
The Yellowjackets actress has been open about her parenting style, having recently shared that Freddie still sleeps in the same bed as her, while her daughter Cleo is as happy as Larry in her own crib. She explained how she had tried to sleep-train Freddie, but that she'd been uncomfortable letting him cry out at night, Page Six detailed.
"He screamed himself hoarse and started banging his head against the crib railing," Ricci said.
"But with Cleo, when we decided to try it and see how she would react to it, she just sort of whined for about seven minutes and then laid down, clutched her little unicorn and went to sleep. It was like she was ready and she wanted to do it, and it was right for her," she added.
