Christopher Nolan's forthcoming movie Oppenheimer will feature extended nudity scenes with actors Cillian Murphy and Florence Pugh.

The highly anticipated biopic - which is set to be released later this month - sees the 47-year-old Peaky Blinders alum star as Robert Oppenheimer, the nuclear scientist who famously led the Manhattan Project and created an atomic bomb during World War II.

Murphy will be joined by a star-studded cast, including Emily Blunt who plays Oppenheimer's wife Kitty, Matt Damon who portrays Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves, and Robert Downey Jr who plays Lewis Strauss.

The film will also feature the 27-year-old Little Women actress, who will stand out in several scenes as the psychiatrist and physician Jean Tatlock, who was also Oppenheimer's ex-fiancée.

In a new interview with The Guardian, the Irish actor stated that he was not allowed to give much away about the film's general plot due to "strict restrictions".

However, he did reveal details on the film’s chemistry tests between him, Pugh, and Blunt, recalling: "They put two actors in a room to see if there’s any spark, and have all the producers and director at a table watching.

"I don’t know what metric they use, and it seems so outrageously silly, but sometimes you get a chemistry and nobody knows why," he explained.

Murphy said that because of his previous work with the A Quiet Place actress, it meant "the audience gets something for free," adding: "You can be immediately vulnerable and open, and try stuff. There were moments where I remember saying, 'I couldn’t have done that if it wasn’t with you.'"

The publication also revealed that he and the Midsommar star have scenes of "prolonged full nudity" together, which makes Oppenheimer one of the award-winning director's rare films to include a significant interest in sex and relationships.

This may not come as a surprise to fans as last month, it was revealed that the movie had an 'R' rating due to "sexuality, nudity, and language," making it the filmmaker’s first rating since his 2002 film Insomnia.

The Oppenheimer cast also features Rami Malek, Gary Oldman, Dane DeHaan, Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh, Matthew Modine, Casey Affleck, Alden Ehrenreich, and Jason Clarke.

The film will be released in theatres on July 21, which is the same day as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Excited fans are already planning on buying tickets to see both films back-to-back.

Moviegoers have also created a viral trend dubbed "Barbenheimer" which has become so popular that even Murphy, Margot Robbie, and the Barbie filmmaker have publicly supported it.
