CNN says Andy Cohen will return for NYE special after he trashed former NYC mayor on air

Andy Cohen has already received his invitation from CNN to come back and host this year's New Year's Eve special alongside Anderson Cooper.

Last Friday, Cohen co-hosted CNN's New Year's Eve Live on December 31 with Cooper.

The Bravo personality and producer has since admitted to being "overserved," which resulted in him making alcohol-fueled jabs, including at Ryan Seacrest and his ABC program — Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve — filming nearby.

Despite Cooper's efforts to rein him in, Cohen went on several rants during the special including telling Mark Zuckerberg to "stop messing with our minds" and calling the New York City mayor Bill de Blasio "horrible."

Cohen also openly mocked Bill de Blasio on the network's holiday special as he called him the "c***piest" mayor in New York.

"The only thing that Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been," Cohen said.

"Don’t go on a rant," Cooper said in response to calm him down. "Is this how you want to start the new year?"

But Cohen was determined to finish his thought, adding: "So sayonara sucker! 2022! It’s a new year, because guess what? I have a feeling I’m going to be standing right here next year, and you know who I’m not going to be looking at, dancing as the city comes apart? You!"

At one point he started slamming ABC's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, who were filming live right next to the CNN team.

"Bunch of smoke coming from Ryan Seacrest's group of losers that are performing behind us," Cohen said about the ABC's New Year broadcast.

"I mean with all due — if you've been watching ABC tonight, you've seen nothing, I'm sorry," he added.

Cohen also went on a rant about how the Journey band playing on the ABC's broadcast was "fake" because it was not led by Steve Perry.

Cohen has since called his rant "drunk and stupid" - but it seems as though it was a hit amongst viewers as CNN wants him back.

On Monday, CNN confirmed that Cohen will be returning to co-host its special in December 2022. "Andy said something he shouldn't have on live TV," a spokeswoman for CNN said in a statement obtained by People.

"We've addressed it with him and look forward to having him back again next year."

On Monday, January 3, Cohen addressed his words on his SiriusXM radio show, Just Andy, with his co-host John Hill.

"Only thing that I regret saying, the only thing is that I slammed the ABC broadcast and I really like Ryan Seacrest and he's a great guy and I really regret saying that," he said.

"And I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it. I was continuing the Journey rant and I just kept talking and I shouldn't have and I felt bad about that," he added.
