Since splitting from Liam Hemsworth earlier this summer, Miley Cryus has had two high profile relationships. The first with Kaitlynn Carter, which lasted a month, and the second with singer Cody Simpson, both of whom she has been friends with for a number of years.

Now, just weeks after the pair made their romance official, Simpson has released a loved-up song about Cyrus.

Titled 'Golden Thing', it was released on Simpson's YouTube channel on Thursday.

Prior to releasing the song, Simpson teased its existence with two tweets.

The first read: "I shouted the words in the first daylight, and a chorus of birds burst on into sight. If we could be heard, for whatever it’s worth, by the rulers in the sky, they’d cry," followed by the hashtag #goldenthing.

The singer also teased the opening lyrics on Wednesday, writing on Twitter, "crystal dream cali queen radiant hand vibrant sand."

After the song's release, Cyrus responded on Instagram stories, simply writing, "MY HEART".

Simpson has also recently opened up about his relationship with Cyrus, revealing that it's far from the whirlwind romance it appears to be.

"I wrote her a song this week that she's pretty much forcing me to put out," Simpson said in an interview with People last week.

The singer explained that their relationship wasn't a "crazy sudden thing" either because they had been friends for a long time.

"[We] found each other again in a space where we're both not partying, working real hard, and it just keeps things healthy and it's good," he added.

"Any girlfriends I've had in the past has always been immediate romance and so it's a different experience having been friends with somebody before and it developing naturally into something more."
