Courteney Cox has left fans divided after she shared a video making light of the recent extreme weather in Los Angeles.

The Friends star, 59, took to Instagram to share a video of her entering her home with an AI filter on it to make it look like she was waist-deep in water.

She captioned the clip: "Finally getting used to the LA rain", saying in the video: "God, it's hell out there." She then filmed herself walking into her house and appearing to scoop one of her dogs up from beneath the water, before sitting down to read a book and even ducking her head under the water to play her grand piano, before scooping up a cup of the 'flood water' to take a drink.

While the light-hearted clip was intended as a joke, some people were left pretty upset by it nonetheless.

Fans took to the comments to share their thoughts, writing: "As someone whose home was destroyed by hurricane flooding, I fail to see the humor in this, especially coming from a person of privilege."

Others added: "Wow. Amazingly tone deaf considering what other Southern Californians are going through," and: "You do know that people have lost their homes due to floods, right?"

Another follower commented: "For someone whose house has flooded, this is not appreciated."

While many people thought the post was a bit insensitive to people that have lost homes and possessions in natural disasters, others enjoyed her video for what she intended it to be.

They commented: "Our home was flooded during a hurricane and I am not offended by this post. It is creative and funny. Stop imposing our issues on other people. She has a right to post what she wants, and you have a right to not watch."

Others added: "The internet is so sensitive now a days … it’s a funny video about bringing light to a dark situation going on. LAUGH PEOPLE," and: "Sometimes you have to find humor when going thru difficult times."

California has been hit with heavy rain and flooding in recent days, with warnings of dangerous mudslides in certain areas.

According to reports, at least nine people have been killed by falling trees, car crashes, or being swept away in raging waters.

According to the Associated Press, there have been "at least 475 mudslides in the Los Angeles area" and residents have been subjected to "more than half the amount of rainfall the city typically gets in a season in just two days" due to the recent extreme weather.

While the rain is expected to taper off, the risk of mudslides will continue as the ground has become so saturated that even less intense rainfall could cause the ground to shift further.

Courteney has yet to respond to any of the comments on her recent video.
