Demi Lovato has revealed that they checked into rehab in 2021.
The singer previously claimed to have been 'California sober' during this period, after a near-fatal overdose in 2018.
Now, they have opened up about their stay in rehab in late 2021 during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
"I've definitely been through a ton. That's no secret to the world," Lovato told the talk show host.
"After going through even more stuff last year — I came out of treatment again — and I realized I really want to do this for myself, and I want to make the best album possible," they continued.
Reports that Lovato had entered rehab again in 2021 have been circulating since last December. However, this is the first time that the artist has officially confirmed that they were in treatment at that time.
They went on to say that they are now totally sober, and have been for the whole time they were working on their upcoming album 'Holy FVCK'.
"Something that really represents who I am, and I think the best way to do that — and the easiest way to do that, and the most authentic — is to do it clean and sober," Lovato said, adding: "I made this album clean and sober. I can't say that about my last album, but this one I'm really proud about."
The former Disney star has a long history of substance abuse issues. After almost dying from an opioid overdose in 2018, they made the decision to stay 'California sober' - meaning they would only drink alcohol and smoke weed.
However, in December 2021, Lovato took to Instagram to tell their fans that they were "no longer" going to be 'California sober', but fully sober.
"Sober sober is the only way to be," they wrote at the time. A month later, reports began to emerge that the singer had checked into rehab for the third time - reports which we now know to be true.
Since then, it looks like Lovato has made a pretty good go at keeping "sober sober". Their eighth studio album 'Holy FVCK' will be released later this summer.
