"Commander in Chief, honestly/If I did the things you do, I couldn't sleep," Lovato sang in the chorus, as she alluded to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
"Seriously, do you even know the truth?/We're in a state of crisis, people are dying/While you line your pockets deep/Commander in Chief/How does it feel to still be able to breathe?"
The song's lyrics also criticized Trump for hiding in a bunker while people protested outside the White House.
"We were taught when we were young/If we fight for what's right, there won't be justice for just some/Won’t give up, stand our ground/We'll be in the streets while you’re bunkering down/Loud and proud, best believe/We'll still take a knee," Lovato sang.

During last night's performance, Lovato sat at a piano to debut the single, and halfway through, the screens behind her lifted to reveal backup singers who also emphasized its message by clapping and repeating: "Won't give up, stand our ground."
At the end of the song, the word "VOTE" was displayed on the screens ahead of the November 3 election.
However, as per TMZ, when the performance aired on NBC, the message was muzzled out by the network.
Instead, a closeup of Lovato at the piano was featured instead.
According to the news outlet, sources said that the message was blocked because of the song's content and that in this instance, "VOTE" was calling people to vote against him.

Lovato announced the release of the single on Instagram, sharing a picture of herself in a face mask with "Vote" emblazoned across the front.
Then, just hours ago, the singer dropped the official music video for the new single, which features downtrodden Americans lip-synching the song's lyrics.

Following the release of the political single, many of Lovato's fans criticized the singer and the subsequently took to Instagram stories to defend herself.
"I literally don't care if this ruins my career. This isn't about that. ... I made a piece of art that stands for something I believe in. And I'm putting it out even at the risk of losing fans. I'll take integrity in my work over sales any day," she said in her Instagram story, per ABC News.
"I'm ... bummed that you expect me, a queer Hispanic woman, to silence my views/beliefs in order to please my audience, i.e., your family."
