Demi Lovato has added another tattoo to their collection - and fans have been left a little confused at their choice of ink.

The 29-year-old singer - who uses they/them pronouns - shared a photo and video of the tattoo to their Instagram story on Saturday.

In a bold move, Lovato opted to get a huge black spider on the side of their recently shaven head.

They teased fans at first, posting a photo of celebrity tattoo artist Dr. Woo tattooing their head - without revealing the design.

A short while later they unveiled the finished tatt, sporting dramatic eyeshadow, dark lipstick and a buzzcut to compliment the edgy look.

"Now @alchestamber come fix my hair pleeeese," the singer captioned the story. They also credited Dr. Woo and added crying laughing emojis.

In a later story, they hinted at the inspiration behind the design by sharing a quote:

"It was grandmother spider who taught us many things. She taught us about pottery and weaving. She taught us about fire and light and dark. She taught us that we are all connected on the web - each one of us having our place in this world."

For those unaware, Grandmother spider is a figure in Native American folklore.

However, fans have been questioning one little detail since the 'Heart Attack' hitmaker debuted their ink.

In a recently resurfaced interview, the former Disney star revealed that they had a real fear of the eight-legged insect.

"I don't like spiders," they said, adding: "But I have a really hard time killing them."

Noting the irony of the tattoo, given Lovato's phobia, a number of commenters took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

"Demi was afraid of spiders and now they got one tattooed on their scalp I SWEAR I DIDNT MAKE S*** UP," one tweeted.

"So Demi Lovato doesn't like spiders but got a permanent tattoo of one on their head .. hahaha I guess the phobia is gone!" wrote another.

"Maybe that’s why they got it like to symbolize them taking their fear head on by harnessing and owning it in a new way?" a third reasoned.

"I just see them waking up at 3am to go pee and looking at themselves in the mirror and screaming cuz of the spider," joked a fourth.
