In the leadup to the 2020 election, Donald Trump has been handing out autographs and telling people to sell them on eBay.

The president gave the autographs to people affected by Hurricane Laura and advised them to sell his signature on eBay for $10,000.

This happened while the president was visiting Lake Charles in Louisiana to assess the damage caused by the hurricane and brief the disaster response.

Trump said to a group of people present: "Come here, get over here. I want a little power."

Passing his autograph to a police officer, he said: "Sell this on eBay tonight, you'll get $10,000."

"If I put your name down, it loses a lot of value. So just sell it tonight on eBay."

While there are a number of Trump autographs for sale on eBay, their listed price is a lot lower than he suggested, and there is one currently available for $599.

Trump visited Louisana as the death toll hit 14, including a 14-year-old girl who lost her life when a tree fell onto her home.

Of the other deaths, a number were the result of carbon monoxide poisoning, prompting the CDC to warn against using "alternate power sources such as gasoline generators and may use propane or charcoal grills for cooking".

The CDC said: "If used or placed improperly, these sources can lead to CO (carbon monoxide) buildup inside buildings, garages, or campers and poison the people and animals inside."

Hurricane Laura has left as many as 400,000 people in Louisiana without water and an additional 200,000 without electricity, the BBC reports.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said: "The devastation and damage stretch from south-west Louisiana all the way through north Louisiana, with more than a half a million power outages remaining, tens of thousands of people displaced from their homes and, sadly, at least 10 lives lost."

It has been reported by KMOV that it could take as long as two months for power to be restored in Cameron Parish.
