Amid the SAG-AFTRA strikes currently putting Hollywood on hold, Dwayne Johnson has donated a seven-figure sum to help the union's members.
The strike has seen thousands of Hollywood actors down tools alongside writers as they seek better working conditions and a fairer share of profits from streaming services.
Not only this but as AI sweeps through the world, actors are seeking to protect their image rights so they don't lose work to digital replicas.
After the strike action was called, Courtney B Vance and Cyd Wilson - the president and executive director of SAG-AFTRA - sent a letter to the union's highest earning actors outlining the financial strain that will be placed on many who have to stop work during the strike.
As per Variety, Wilson said: "We rely on donations and grants to provide services – we have been very fortunate that we raised enough money to be able to cover all of our programs.
"But when we hit a crisis like this and we’re going to spend millions and millions of dollars in financial assistance, this is when we need our high profile talent who can afford it, who are in a situation to help others."
After sending out the letter, Vance and Wilson revealed that they received a phone call from Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as he offered to help out.
"It was a love fest. It’s like, 'Man, you’re stepping up in a way that is allowing others to know the dire necessity of it'," Vance said. "This is him saying, 'In such a time as this, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do.' And that sends a huge message to other folks to do the same thing."
While the donation amount is unknown, it is reported to be a "record" seven-figure sum that will likely help between 7000 and 10,000 members through the Emergency Financial Assistance Program.
Discussing more about the letter, Vance said: "It is a call to arms for all of us to know that we just have to step up however you can.
"If your step up is $10, step up. Because that $10 is going to help somebody. If it’s $10,000, if it’s $10 million, step up, because we have to.
"Everyone knows what happens when you go on strike, when you stand for something - as the saying goes, if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for everything - you can’t stand unless you have support underneath you, on the side, up top and up front. So Dwayne is letting everyone know, 'I’m here. What are you going to do?'"
This is the first time since 1960 that both actors and writers have been on strike had the same time.
