Elon Musk seems to disapprove of Grimes' desire to get body modifications, a recent Twitter conversation between the former partners has shown.

Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, began the interaction with a tweet that read: "Also, has anyone done elf ear mods with a good outcome? I'm scared about ear cartilage having a hard time healing. Especially as a musician this surgery seems risky but I've wanted it my whole life. Curious about people's experiences! [sic]"

The Canadian musician's ex-boyfriend, Elon Musk, replied the next day, cheekily writing: "The downside of elf ear surgery probably outweighs the upside."

Elf ear surgery is a relatively recent phenomenon, with the practice becoming increasingly popular in China, the New York Post reported last year.

The surgery involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the ears to make them more elf-like and pushed forward, reminiscent of the mystical creatures that often appear in fantasy novels and films, like the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Many women in China swear by the body modification, which they say makes their face appear skinnier and therefore more aesthetically pleasing.

One woman told Vice: "The results are very obvious [...] You can see my ears from the front, and overall I look more energetic."

However, it seems Grimes desires a more invasive procedure, which would mean completely modifying the cartilage in the ear to make them more pointy - that surgery takes longer to heal and is irreversible, per an Arkansas Cosmetic Surgery Center.

The clinic also highlights the heightened risk of infection elf ear surgery can bring, stating: "Another danger of getting elf ears is the danger of infection, which can have you lose an ear in a few days."

Apparently, Grimes doesn't wish to stop at her ears, writing in a separate tweet: "Also does anyone know anyone great/ safe/ reliable [people] who could do vampire teeth caps on me in Austin or [LA]?"

Grimes' Twitter queries garnered a range of different responses. One user commented: "Hi! I got elf ears in 2016 and it went well :)"

Some users weren't so helpful - another added: "Girl go take care of your kids."

It appears Grimes, 34, has no qualms about making her unconventional tastes known to the world. The 'Oblivion' singer has made headlines multiple times after revealing the names she and Musk chose for their children.

Their son, born in 2020, is named X Æ A-Xii Musk. After much confusion, Musk eventually revealed that their son's name was pronounced "X A.I. Archangel," per Insider.

The former couple's daughter, born last year via surrogate, is named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk.
