Elon Musk's ex-wife has disputed the claim that her former husband held their infant son in his arms when he died.

On November 21, the 51-year-old billionaire responded to an online user who asked why the controversial Alex Jones' Twitter account wasn't restored yet.

Referring to the 48-year-old being fined $965 million for claiming that the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a "hoax," the new Twitter owner said he has "no mercy for anyone who would use the deaths of children for gain, politics or fame".

The Tesla founder, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion last month, also revealed that he felt his firstborn's "last heartbeat" as he "died in his arms". However, his ex-wife, Justine Musk, took to her social media to refute that claim, writing that she was the one who held her son when he tragically passed.

Read Justine and the SpaceX founder's tweets below:

When another Twitter user asked if the infant passed from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), the 50-year-old author, replied: "A SIDS-related incident that put him on life support. He was declared brain-dead."

She then added: "And not that it matters to anyone except me, because it is one of the most sacred and defining moments of my life, but I was the one who was holding him."

In a subsequent tweet, the Bloodangel author responded to supporters, one of whom wrote: "Dad always wants to get credits, but, that should, actually, goes to mom. I believe it is the mom who felt that last heartbeat."

Justine then responded: "Not the last heartbeat. The death rattle," to which the same well-wishing user wrote back: "Sorry for the inaccuracy, what am trying to say is that the last moment is understandable to be spent on mom’s chest or arms."

The mother of six expressed that she understands the online user's intentions and shared that details "are just really important" to her.

After the death of Nevada Alexander Musk, the couple went on to welcome twins - Griffin and Xavier Musk - in 2004, and a set of triplets - Kai, Saxon, and Damian Musk - in 2006.

The couple were married for eight years before divorcing in 2008. Justine has previously spoken about her marriage to the Tesla founder and the lasting impact their son's death had on her.

Last October, the Uninvited author wrote for Maire Claire and revealed that Nevada stopped breathing after she put him down for a nap in 2002.

"By the time the paramedics resuscitated him, he had been deprived of oxygen for so long that he was brain dead," she wrote. "He spent three days on life support in a hospital in Orange County before we made the decision to take him off it. I held him in my arms when he died."

She said that the tech mogul made it "clear" that he did not want to talk about their son's death and blamed her for being "emotionally manipulative" by mourning openly.

"I buried my feelings instead, coping with Nevada’s death by making my first visit to an IVF clinic less than two months later," Justine wrote.

"Nevada’s death sent me on a years-long inward spiral of depression and distraction that would be continuing today if one of our nannies hadn’t noticed me struggling," she said. "She approached me with the name of an excellent therapist. Dubious, I gave it a shot."

The literary writer is now "estranged" from the richest man in the world and only deals with his assistant when it comes to concerns relating to their children.

Musk has four other children - two with the Canadian singer Grimes and two more with Shivon Zilis, a 36-year-old executive who works for Musk at his brain chip company Neuralink.
