Salma Hayek has delighted fans by sharing a frank and unfiltered selfie embracing her natural beauty and the signs of aging.

The actress, 56, took to Instagram to share a close-up selfie of her gazing into the camera in the sunshine as her hair fell around her face.

She told her followers in English and Spanish: "Me waking up and counting how many white hairs and wrinkles have crashed the party this morning."

Fans were quick to flood her comments with praise for normalising the fact that white hairs and skin texture such as wrinkles are a natural part of aging in an industry where many succumb to surgery and fillers.

They commented: "Thank you for sharing! It helps all of to see that even the most beautiful and famous also age."

Others added: "You’re just a real natural human being and that beautiful! Thank you" and: "Natural beauty is ageless, love the #filterfree #makeupfree pic."

One wrote: "Still the most beautiful woman in this world! shining in life! I love you Salma, have a great day!", while another commented: "The party is just getting started."

Another fan added: "White hair or not, you are Queen, wonderful, wrinkles are your life story that brightens every daylight."

Supermodel Cindy Crawford was among those complimenting the Oscar-nominee, by writing: "Beautiful!", while Olivia Wilde added flame and heart emojis.

Salma has never been one to shy away from making a bold statement, but fans were loving her candid post breaking the taboo that Hollywood stars should remain exactly the same as they were in their 20s and never show signs of getting older.

The star has previously opened up about the pressure put on women in the film industry to remain ageless, telling Glamour in February: "I thought getting older meant I wasn't going to work. I'm working. I thought getting older maybe meant that you're not in love anymore. I'm in love.

"I don't feel that I lost my flexibility or my agility or even my strength... Hell, I'm still going. Shocker. I'm still here. They tried to get rid of me a thousand ways. I'm still here."

Salma has been married to 61-year-old billionaire François-Henri Pinault, who is the CEO of Kering, for 14 years, and the couple shares 15-year-old daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault, who is also making a name for herself with over 200,000 followers on TikTok.

François-Henri is also father to three older children - 25-year-old son François Jr., daughter Mathilde, 22, and son Augustin, 16, - from his relationships with ex-wife Dorothée Lepère and supermodel Linda Evangelista.

Salma is not the only star embracing self-acceptance this week, as TV host Ricki Lake also shared a joyful nude photo of herself in an outdoor tub to celebrate finally being comfortable in her own skin.

Age is simply a number and there's nothing more beautiful than being confident in the skin you're in, white hairs, wrinkles, and all.
