Miley Cyrus' new single 'Flowers' has caused a frenzy amongst fans as they are speculating that it is a jab at her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

The 30-year-old singer released the first single off her forthcoming album titled Endless Summer Vacation with an empowering track and music video about self-love after a relationship.

While the 'Party In The USA' songstress didn't confirm the rumors surrounding the song, many fans have been scouring for clues that it is about her Australian former beau.

The former couple first met on the set of The Last Song in 2010 and dated on and off for several years. They then tied the knot in 2018 and divorced a year later. The split was eventually finalized in January 2020.

Cyrus' fans began speculating over 'Flowers' after noticing that it was scheduled to be released on January 13, 2023 - which happened to be Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday.

This detail was not lost on her followers as one user wrote on Twitter: "Miley’s telling the world she can love herself better ON LIAM’S BIRTHDAY?! she definitely didn’t lie when she said she’s got nerve."

Another point that people shed light on was the resemblance between the Hannah Montana star's song and Bruno Mars' 2012 hit single 'If I Was Your Man'.

In Mars' song, he sings: "I should have bought you flowers/ And held your hand/ Should have gave you all my hours/ When I had the chance/ Take you to every party ‘cause all you wanted to do was dance."

In her song, Cyrus takes the self-love theme and instead pipes: "I can buy myself flowers / Write my name in the sand / Talk to myself for hours / Say things you don’t understand / I can take myself dancing / And I can hold my own hand / Yeah, I can love me better than you can."

According to unconfirmed fan theories, some people stated that the Hunger Games actor had dedicated Mars' song to Cyrus after their first engagement in 2013.

And, in one TikTok video which has amassed 12.2M views and 1.9 million likes - including a comment from singer Charlie Puth, who wrote "That's actually genius lol." - many people believe it could be true.

A third clue that was made was the connection between the fire metaphor in the lyric: "We were right till we weren't/ Built a home and watched it burn," and the fact the home Cyrus shared with Hemsworth burned down during the Woolsey Fire in 2018.

According to Vanity Fair, the former Disney Channel star once said that the loss of their Malibu home is partly what led her and Hemsworth to get married.

"What Liam and I went through together changed us," she said at the time. "I'm not sure without losing Malibu, we would've been ready to take this step or ever even gotten married, who can say? But the timing felt right and I go with my heart."

One last apparent clue fans found in the music video is the oversized black suit Cyrus wore while dancing freely around the house. Many people believe that it is in reference to the suit Hemsworth wore in a very specific awkward public moment for the former couple.

During a red carpet appearance at the Avengers movie premiere - while the couple was together - the actor is believed to have said "could you behave, for once?" to the singer when she pretended to lick him. She then pushed him away and proceeded to have photos taken on her own.

Cyrus' new single 'Flowers' is out now and her album Endless Summer Vacation will be released on March 10.
