Below Deck Mediterranean star Captain Mark Howard has sadly passed away at the age of 65.

The news was confirmed by the Below Deck official social media pages. In a statement, officials said: "Our thoughts and sincerest sympathies are with the family and friends of the respected Captain Mark Howard.

"As the captain of the first season of ‘Below Deck Med,’ he will always be remembered for his many contributions and mentorship and will forever remain part of the Bravo family."

TMZ reports that Howard - who appeared in 13 episodes of the reality show's first season back in 2016 - was found dead in his Florida home by his wife, Susan. She had reportedly been out of town on a dog show between October 22-27.

A friend of Howard's told the outlet that the Captain's death was "sudden".

Howard, born in 1955, was an accomplished captain who boasted 30 years of experience on boats. According to his Bravo biography, his boating experience included "sailing the South Pacific to the Mediterranean and Caribbean on both private and charter boats".

Additionally, he also had a pilot's license that allowed him to fly helicopters as a hobby.

Captain Howard's bio adds:

"His advice to aspiring yachties is to be honest, work hard, and pay attention to senior crew members while never forgetting the golden rule of yachting: 'The guest is always right.'"

On social media, fans and friends have been sharing their tributes to the late captain.

Howard’s third stewardess, Tiffany Jones, wrote: "RIP Captain Mark Howard. You were a joy to be around."

Chief stewardess Hannah Ferrier wrote on Instagram: "Rest In Peace my friend. You were a great captain, friend and colleague. Always the gentleman [...] You will be missed."

A third tweeted: "Saddened to hear of the loss of Captain Mark Howard. He was so gracious to our group on Season 1 #belowdeckmed and he became a friend. Saying prayers for his family. RIP Sir".

Our thoughts are with Captain Howard's family, friends, and fans at this time.
