'Bridgerton' star reveals her solution for watching back her own sex scenes with her entire family

Netflix's new 19th-century drama Bridgerton has taken the world of period dramas by storm since it debuted on the platform this past Christmas Day.

It has widely been praised for its diverse cast, which includes a number of mixed-race and Black actors playing members of the nobility and even a monarch - a real novelty in Regency-era productions.

Another widely-discussed aspect of the show includes its various raunchy scenes. In fact, Phoebe Dynevor who plays Daphne Bridgerton on the show has revealed how she felt about the prospect of watching her own sex scenes with her family.

Daphne is the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family and the love interest of Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (played by Regé-Jean Page).

The show features several steamy sex scenes involving the two characters, which the 25-year-old actress admits she fast-forwarded in order to avoid watching them with her family - including her grandparents.

As per the Daily Star, Phoebe said she was “on high alert” in preparation for the racy scenes when she watched the series with her relatives.

Fortunately, she also said her mom was proud of her performance on the show.

Phoebe said: “She is very proud and excited. I watched the show with the whole family, even the grandparents managed to watch it. I had to sit there and fast forward on high alert with the remote control. We managed it just about.”

The show's creator, Chris Van Dusen, has hinted that the saucy series could go on for another seven seasons.

He told Collider: “This being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure. I would love that.”

Van Dusen also discussed the diversity aspect of the show, telling Collider:

“We knew we wanted to make the show reflect the world that we live in today. And, even though it's set in the 19th century, we still wanted modern audiences to relate to it, and see themselves on screen no matter who they were.”

Bridgerton is produced by Shonda Rhimes, the same woman responsible for hit shows such as Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder.
