The highly anticipated Friends reunion episode could start filming as early as next month, according to Ross Geller, aka David Schwimmer.

The 53-year-old revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that filming for the one-off episode will depend on restrictions due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Fallon, Schwimmer said: "It's supposed to happen maybe in August, the middle of August, but honestly we're going to wait and see another week or two if we all determine it's really safe enough to do. And if not, then we'll wait until it's safe."

He also revealed that the special would feature "special bits", though he didn't expand on what this might mean.

Co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry will join Schwimmer for the reunion, which was originally supposed to premiere in May, but was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It will air in the US on HBO Max.

Also, on The Tonight Show, Schwimmer gave his opinion on whether Rachel and Ross were really "on a break".

The actor spoke about the infamous scene, and firmly picked a side on the matter of whether Ross and Rachel did actually split up or whether Ross cheated on his on-again-off-again girlfriend.

"People are so passionately divided on whether or not [Ross and Rachel] were 'on a break'," he said, before staying true to character by stating, "Yes, it's not even a question, they were on a break."

The cast of the hit nineties sitcom announced that the reunion was in the works back in February, 16 years after the final episode aired.

Confirming the news, Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, and Matthew Perry all shared the same post to social media.

The simply captioned it: "It's happening."
