Netflix's smash hit comedy drama Dead To Me has been renewed for a third and final season, it has been revealed.

Dead To Me centers around the blossoming friendship between two women - Jen and Judy - who meet in a therapy group for bereft spouses. A synopsis of the show reads;

"Jen's husband recently died in a hit-and-run, and the sardonic widow is determined to solve the crime. Optimistic free spirit Judy has recently suffered a tragic loss of her own. The ladies meet at a support group and, despite their polar-opposite personalities, become unlikely friends. As the women bond over bottles of wine and a shared affinity for "The Facts of Life," Judy tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it."

And now, Netflix has given fans of the show the news they've been waiting to hear. Dead To Me will return for a third season, although sadly it will be the show's last. "The brilliant Dead To Me has been renewed for a third (and final) season!" Netflix wrote on Twitter.

Star of the show Christina Applegate responded to the news on social media. She wrote, "I will miss these ladies. But we felt this was the best way to tie up the story of these women. Thank you to all the fans. We will be getting back to work when it is safe to do so. Much love"

However, not everyone was happy with the news that the third season would be Dead To Me's last. One Twitter user wrote, "Why does Netflix cut all these good shows short?? Ozarks 4 seasons, now this show 3 seasons. Need shows to last longer."

Show creator Liz Feldman said in a statement;

“From start to finish, Dead to Me is exactly the show I wanted to make and it’s been an incredible gift.

"Telling a story sprung from grief and loss has stretched me as an artist and healed me as a human. I’ll be forever indebted to my partners in crime, my friends for life, Christina and Linda, and our brilliantly talented writers, cast and crew. I am beyond grateful to Netflix for supporting Dead To Me from day one, and I’m thrilled to continue our collaboration.”

As the Hollywood Reporter notes, Netflix scripted originals rarely have a long shelf life - it was also recently announced that Ozark would end after its fourth season.
