After a series of live-action remakes of classic animated Disney films over the last few years, 1973's Robin Hood is set to get the CG treatment, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Oo-de-lally!
According to THR, the upcoming movie will be written by Kari Granlund, who wrote last year's Lady and the Tramp live-action/CG remake.
Furthermore, Carlos Lopez Estrada, who is best known for directing the 2018 crime movie Blindspotting, is all set to lend her directing prowess to the feature.
Take a look at the trailer for 1973's Robin Hood:Justin Springer, who produced Disney films such as Dumbo and Tron Legacy will also produce this upcoming project - which features anthropomorphic versions of the characters. The new movie, like the original, will be a musical.
The 1973 version portrayed Robin Hood as a fox, while other members of his gang were illustrated as other animals. Little John was illustrated as a bear, the Sheriff of Nottingham was a wolf, Maid Marian was a vixen, Friar Tuck was a badger, and Prince John was a lion.
Take a read of the synopsis for the original animated movie reads:
"An amiable rooster called Alan-a-Dale (Roger Miller) tells stories and sings songs of the heroic Robin Hood (Brian Bedford) and his trusty sidekick, Little John (Phil Harris), in this animated animal-themed adaptation of the legendary story.
"When evil Prince John (Peter Ustinov) deputizes the Sheriff of Nottingham (Pat Buttram) to collect unreasonable taxes from the animals of Sherwood Forest, Robin, Little John, and the other merry men wage a lighthearted battle against their evil foes."
Given that much of the world is on lockdown amid the COVID-19 crisis, it is unknown when the studio will start working on the new movie. However, we do know that the Robin Hood live-action remake will debut exclusively on Disney+.
