Marvel fans have been rallying for more LGBTQ+ representation in its characters.

And now it seems as though the MCU has finally delivered, after a new teaser for the upcoming Disney+ spin-off TV series Loki appeared to reveal that the God of Mischief is actually gender-fluid.

On Sunday, June 6, the official Twitter account of the MCU series shared a promotional clip, which included a shot of what appears to be a file on Loki kept by the fictional trans-temporal organization, the Time Variance Authority.

The clip shows a file which lists the supervillain-turned-antihero's sex is listed simply as "fluid".

Fans of the character have since taken to social media to share their enthusiasm and praise for the revelation.

One Twitter user wrote: "gender fluid loki makes me so happy. [sic]"

Another added: "GENDERFLUID?? MARVEL BESTIE YOU'RE DOING AMAZING SWEETIE. [sic]"

A third then added: "MAY I HAVE EVERYONES ATTENTION WE HAVE GENDER FLUID LOKI HAPPY PRIDE MONTH. [sic]"

While a fourth wrote: "Blink & you'll miss it, but in the new #Loki trailer it confirms #mcu loki is gender fluid just like the source material! Hoping they get more into that with the series! Happy #PrideMonth! [sic]"

Finally, someone else pointed out that this detail seems to be imitating that of the character in Earth-616, the mainstream continuity of the Marvel Universe, writing: "I loved they confirmed MCU #Loki is gender fluid just like in the comics!!! [sic]"

Loki is due to drop on the streaming service Disney+ on Wednesday, June 9, and sees an alternate timeline version of Tom Hiddleston's Frost Giant character team up with Owen Wilson's cosmic bureaucrat Mobius M. Mobius to fix the continuity errors caused by his cheating death in Avengers: Endgame.

Commenting on his portrayal of the character in a recent interview with Empire magazine, Hiddleston stated: "Loki is the quintessential shapeshifter.

"His mercurial nature is that you don’t know whether, across the MCU, he’s a hero or a villain or an anti-hero. You don’t know whether you can trust him."
