'Frasier' reboot is confirmed with Kelsey Grammer set to reprise Dr. Crane
A Frasier reboot has been confirmed, with Kelsey Grammer set to reprise his titular role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The streaming platform Paramount+ announced on February 24, that the sitcom, which originally aired between 1993 and 2004, will join its program. It also confirmed that Grammer, 66, would be returning to his role as Dr. Frasier Crane.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Grammer said: "I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane."
He added: "Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I'd like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world."
As reported by The Huffington Post, the series is set to air in 2022. There had been rumors of a revival some years back when Grammer was spotted in London with a script in his hand.
The beloved series came to an end after more than 10 years, 11 seasons, and a number of awards. John Mahoney, who played Frasier's father Martin, sadly died of throat cancer in 2018 at the age of 77 after battling the disease for four years.
It is believed that original stars of the show such as Peri Gilpin, Jane Leeves, and David Hyde Pierce are will also be reprising their roles. However, the reboot will not be set in Seattle unlike in the original series.
"Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling," said CBS Studios president David Stapf, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Stapf continued: "There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey.
"We can't wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount + We've got it hatched. We've hatched the plan, what we think is the right way to go, Grammer told In Depth With Graham Bensinger in 2019. It's not going to be Seattle.
"It's not going to be the same Frasier, it's going to be the man in his next iteration. Hopefully, that'll be something people like watching. But I think it'll be funny."
