One of the storylines that ran on from the very first episode of Friends, was Ross Geller's past as a married man, whose ex-wife had left him for a woman.
Things became complicated when it emerged she had fallen pregnant with a baby boy, Ross' son. As a result, the boy, and his moms, became recurring characters throughout the series.
Anyway, it turns out that the actress who played Carol Willick, Ross' ex-wife, had been on the receiving end of a lot of disapproval for playing the lesbian character at the time.
Check out the moment Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow made a virtual appearance at the 2020 Emmys:

According to Jane, even her own father was uncomfortable with the idea of the actress playing a gay character.
"It became apparent soon after there was suddenly a responsibility about being able to stand up against all of the people that were saying this was wrong, including my own father who had a really hard time with that," she said in an interview with Now to Love this week.
Jane also revealed that the backlash that the storyline faced was particularly bad when she made appearances on talk shows. However, she was determined to stand up for the lesbian and gay community.

"I would have to break things down for them," Jane said. "And I felt like it was really important for me to be super clear; love is the most important, of all the things that we could possibly do love is the most important way forward from anybody."
Jane also said that her portrayal of Carol sparked huge support from the lesbian and gay community.
In any case, this past Tuesday was the 26th anniversary of the pilot episode of Friends. Yikes! And if you're a fan of the beloved sitcom, you'll probably be aware the team behind Friends are planning a reboot.
Recently, however, Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green on the show, has revealed that the reunion has been delayed again until next May, telling Deadline she is looking forward to the project.

"It's going to be super. You know what? This [delay] has given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been," she said. "I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed. Look, we're not going anywhere. You're never going to get rid of Friends. You're stuck with us for life, guys."
Sources who spoke to Variety also confirmed that filming won't be taking place until next May "at the earliest".
