The streaming service released American Murder: Gabby Petito, a three-part series that revisits the 22-year-old's tragic death and brings new insights into her final days.
Petito, an aspiring YouTuber, set out on a cross-country road trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, in 2021, only to mysteriously vanish.
Watch the trailer below:Her remains were found in Wyoming’s Spread Creek camping area in September, where an autopsy confirmed she had died from blunt-force injuries to her head and neck and manual strangulation.
Her ex had returned home to Florida without her and refused to cooperate with authorities. He took his own life in Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October 2021 and left a notebook confession admitting to Petito's murder.
Now, newly revealed details in the documentary shed light on a desperate call the travel vlogger made to her ex-boyfriend, Jackson, just before her disappearance.
According to the docuseries, Petito reached out to Jackson on August 22, texting him: "Hi, I'm sure I'm the last person on the planet you want to hear from. I would really love to talk to you. I'm only alone until tomorrow," cited by The Mirror.
They later had a phone conversation, which Jackson described as a cry for help. "I think she wanted to get away but just didn’t know how to do it...I think she wasn’t sure what he would do or what he could do," he said.
"I got the vibe that she may still need somebody to talk to after we hung up, so I was like, 'Hey, if you do need to talk again, let me know. It's okay. I'm okay with that," he shared.
During their call, the content creator hinted that she had an argument with Laundrie and was considering leaving him. "She kind of hinted the fact that they had got into an argument a little bit. She said, 'I have a plan, I think I want to leave him. I'm gonna do it, I have to figure out when I'm going to do it,'" Jackson recalled.
"From the sound of her voice and the way she was saying it, I think that she wasn't sure of what he would do or what he could do. I think she was wanting to get away but just didn't know how to do it," he added.

Just five days later, on August 27, Jackson received another call from Petito, along with a Snapchat message saying that she was in Wyoming.
Unfortunately, he was at work and unable to answer. Now, that missed call weighs heavily on him.
"I think back on the fact that maybe if I did answer that phone call, I could have helped, or there could have been a different outcome," he said, per The Independent.
American Murder: Gabby Petito is now streaming on Netflix.
