It's no secret that the ending of Game of Thrones (and, y'know, the final season in general) has divided fans.

A lot of questions were left unanswered. Like why was Jon a Targaryen if it literally served no purpose? Why was so much emphasis given to Arya's kill list when she never got to shut green eyes? The list goes on.

Now, Isaac Hempstead Wright, who plays bran, said that when he read the final script, he thought it was a joke.

The 20-year-old, who like so many younger members of the cast made a name for himself on the show, revealed that its writers had sent every cast member a script in which their character ends up on the throne.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said: "I genuinely thought it was a joke script and that showrunners [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] sent to everyone a script with their own character ends up on the Iron Throne. 'Yeah, good one guys... Oh s**t, it's actually real?'"

Hempstead Wright then sympathized with fans who were unhappy with the ending, saying that with such a complex storyline, it was almost inevitable that the writers were never going to satisfy everyone with the ending.

The 20-year-old said that he supported the ending because it isn't predictable, saying: "Not everyone will be happy. It's so difficult to finish a series as popular as this without p***ing some people off."

"I don't think anybody will think it's predictable and that's as much as you can hope for. People are going to be angry. There's going to be a lot of broken hearts. It's bittersweet."

The actor has also hit out at the petition created by unhappy fans to have the last series remade:

"It's just absurd. I can't even fathom it. It's just ridiculous," he told the Hollywood Reporter.

"It's ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don't like it. I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn't."
