Former 'Bond Girl' Gemma Arterton has revealed that she believes there is "so much wrong" with the portrayal of women in James Bond movies.

The 34-year-old English actor famously portrayed the character Strawberry Fields, an intelligence operative working for the British Secret Service, in the 2008 Bond flick Quantum of Solace.

In the movie, Bond (Daniel Craig) and Fields pose as two teachers on a sabbatical and are supposed to be laying low in a cheap hostel.

However, unable to focus on the job at hand, Bond instead books the two of them into a five-star hotel, where the beautiful intelligence operative "succumbs to Bond’s charms and sleeps with him".

Now, prior to the release of her BBC drama Black Narcissus, Arterton has said that she still gets criticized for appearing in the movie, and admitted that her character should not have behaved the way she did.

Speaking to The Sun, she said:

"At the beginning of my career, I was poor as a church mouse and I was happy just to be able to work and earn a living.

"I still get criticism for accepting Quantum Of Solace, but I was 21, I had a student loan, and you, know, it was a Bond film."

The actor added: "But as I got older I realized there was so much wrong with Bond women. Strawberry should have just said no, really, and worn flat shoes."

Per CinemaBlend, 007 star Daniel Craig also isn't a fan of the term "Bond girl" - which has long been used to describe a love interest or female companion of James Bond in the movies.

In a recent interview, Craig states that he wouldn't use the term to describe his No Time To Die co-star Ana de Armas.

And although he said he wasn't going "to deny" anybody else using the term, Craig did say that he wouldn't be able to hold a "sensible conversation" with somebody who does.

The 52-year-old said:

"I don’t even call them 'Bond girls'. I’m not going to deny it to anybody else. It’s just, I can’t have a sensible conversation with somebody if we’re talking about 'Bond girls'."

In addition, Naomie Harris - who plays the beloved fan-favorite Miss Moneypenny in Skyfall, Spectre, and the upcoming No Time To Die - also revealed her qualms with 'Bond girl' label in recent 007 movies.

Harris told the Mirror, as per Metro: "I look at the older Bond movies, and the term girl is probably appropriate because they aren’t fully fleshed-out characters.

"But particularly in No Time to Die, they are formidable women driving the plot forward."
