Halle Berry has revealed how a sex scene in one James Bond film nearly killed her, but it had nothing to do with attempting a risky sex stunt.
The actress, who played Bond girl Jinx in the 2002 film Die Another Day, recalled the frightening medical emergency that occurred during a scene with Pierce Brosnan, who played the iconic British spy.
Berry was attempting to seduce Brosnan when she accidentally choked on the fruit she was eating. What was supposed to be a flirtatious scene quickly became a serious situation, forcing Brosnan to step in and help his co-star.
According to Berry, Brosnan performed the Heimlich manoeuvre after she began choking, and it saved her life after she coughed up the almost-fatal fruit.
Recalling the awkward moment, Berry said: “I was doing a scene with Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day.
“I am supposed to be trying to be all sexy and trying to seduce him with a fig, and then I ended up choking on it. And he had to get up and do the Heimlich. So not sexy, so not sexy.”
The actress later joked about the experience, describing the incident as anything but glamorous. She also admitted that the scene quickly became a lot less romantic when she started choking.
Berry has since spoken many times about Brosnan's quick-thinking actions, describing him as one of her favourite people and praising him for coming to her aid.
What began as an attempt to create a seductive scene between two fictional characters instead became an unexpected real-life emergency, with Brosnan forced to put his portrayal of James Bond aside and help save his co-star.
Her appearance in Die Another Day, the 20th film in the long-running James Bond franchise, earned her a place as one of Hollywood's most recognizable stars.
The film was also hugely successful as it was released in 2002, the 40th anniversary of the Bond films.
The film and Berry's character, Jinx, were so popular that plans were reportedly made for a spin-off centred on the character, an NSA agent who crosses paths with James Bond while investigating the same international conspiracy. However, the project was ultimately cancelled.
Her role as Jinx in Die Another Day came at a major peak in her career, having already achieved major success with films including X-Men and Swordfish.
Shortly after her Bond debut, she became the first Black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Monster's Ball.

James Bond is one of the most popular and well-known heroes in cinema. But it seems as though one of the actors who portrayed 007 is just as heroic as his fictional counterpart.
That's right, Hollywood actress Halle Berry claims that her former co-star Pierce Brosnan saved her from choking while filming a sex scene on the set of the James Bond movie Die Another Day.

Per The Independent, while chatting to talk show host Jimmy Fallon, Berry recalled the hilarious incident on set, stating: "One time I was doing a scene with Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day. I was supposed to be all sexy and trying to seduce him with a fig, and then I ended up choking on it."
She added: "He had to get up and do the Heimlich [manoeuvre]. It was so not sexy, like so not sexy! ... You should have seen it! Like James Bond knows how to Heimlich. [Brosnan] was there for me. He will always be one of my favorite people in the world.”

This anecdote comes just a few weeks after Berry shared a risqué topless Instagram snap with her many followers. Uploading a pic of herself wearing a stylish white dress, she stated: "Happy #FitnessFriday! We all tend to focus on what we look like in our workout clothes, but how we feel in our skin is what truly matters.
She continued: "With so many of us sitting in front of a computer all day or looking down at our phones, developing good posture can be SO so important!"

It's hard to believe that Halle Berry's turn as Bond Girl Jinx in 2002's Die Another Day was a whole 18 years ago, but for those nostalgic for the good old days (especially in these "unprecedented" times), Halle has just provided us with quite the blast from the past.
Halle recreated one of the most unforgettable scenes in the film - the one where she dons an orange bikini and holster to boot. Well, this time, minus any weaponry.

The 53-year-old took to Instagram to grace our feeds with a similar photo of her strolling down the beach in a belted orange bikini, and it's safe to say that she looks amazing.
"Never been a shady beach," she captioned the picture, alongside a laughing crying emoji.

And fans loved the look, with one writing "Still phenomenally beautiful."
Another corroborated, "Absolutely gorgeous [...] you never get old."
This comes after the actress announced that she is to pull out of an upcoming film in which she was to play a transgender character, after facing considerable backlash online.
Per Variety, Berry revealed during an Instagram live video that she had been preparing for the role but had not yet been officially cast as the character.
“[It’s] a character where the woman is a trans character, so she’s a woman that transitioned into a man. She’s a character in a project I love that I might be doing,” she said.
The actress added that she wanted to take a "deep dive" into "that world", Variety reports, likely meaning the trans community. “Who this woman was is so interesting to me, and that will probably be my next project,” Berry continued.
However, she has since received backlash on social media, after misgendering the character multiple times. One Twitter user wrote of her discussions of the character, "please reconsider @halleberry. trans men aren’t women playing dress up, and this would do a lot more harm than good."

Another added, "Halle Berry on playing a trans man in her next movie: “It's really important to me to tell stories, and that’s a woman, that’s a female story – it changes to a man, but I want to understand the why and how of that. I want to get into it.” Cis actors need to stop doing this."

Since then, Halle Berry has released a statement in which she confirmed that she would no longer be considering the role and apologized for her remarks. She wrote;
“Over the weekend I had the opportunity to discuss my consideration of an upcoming role as a transgender man, and I’d like to apologize for those remarks. As a cisgender woman, I now understand that I should not have considered this role, and that the transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories.
“I am grateful for the guidance and critical conversation over the past few days and will continue to listen, educate and learn from this mistake. I vow to be an ally in using my voice to promote better representation on-screen, both in front of and behind the camera.”

No Time To Die director Cary Fukunaga has called out Sean Connery's James Bond for being "basically" a rapist.
"Is it Thunderball or Goldfinger where, like, basically Sean Connery's character rapes a woman," he said to the Hollywood Reporter. "She's like 'No, no, no,' and he's like, 'Yes, yes, yes.' That wouldn't fly today."
In the 1965 film, Connery's Bond meets nurse, Patricia Fearing — who is played by Molly Peters. She repeatedly rejects his advances, and pushes him away when he forcibly kisses her.
Later on, she pleads with Bond to not tell her manager about something that could result in a dismissal. He replies: "Well, I suppose my silence could have a price."
She moves away, and says, "You don't mean… oh, no!" Bond replies, "Oh yes," pushes her into a steam room, and removes her clothing.
Speaking about No Time To Die, and his attempt to elevate women, Fukunaga continues:
"You can’t change Bond overnight into a different person. But you can definitely change the world around him and the way he has to function in that world.
"It’s a story about a white man as a spy in this world, but you have to be willing to lean in and do the work to make the female characters more than just contrivances."
Twitter users have called out Connery's Bond for his treatment of women. Referencing Goldfinger, one user wrote, "Goldfinger be so perfect then BOOM implied rape scene used as a way to convince Pussy Galore to betray Goldie. Bond doesn’t even seduce her, he straight up forces himself on her. Ugh, the rest is so good, wish the scene didn’t exist [sic]."
Another corroborated, "Some of the things Bond does in Goldfinger are basically rape."
The film's producer, Barbara Broccoli, told The Hollywood Reporter that 007 has a "long history".
"I think people are coming around – with some kicking and screaming – to accepting that stuff is no longer acceptable. Thank goodness. Bond is a character who was written in 1952 and the first film [Dr. No] came out in 1962."
Lashana Lynch, who plays 00 agen, Nomi in the upcoming film, added that she thinks Fukunaga succeeded in creating a more progressive Bond.
"Cary had big discussions with Barbara and Daniel about how to give the female characters equity, how to keep them in charge of themselves, how to give them solo moments where the audience learns who they are," she told the publication.
"It was really important to empower the female characters as stand-alones. And I think that he kept that in mind throughout the whole shoot. I didn’t feel like Nomi, as a young Black woman, was constantly standing behind the white guy, which, for me, is job done. And that was a very conscious decision for Cary."
No Time To Die will hit movie theatres on September 30.
