It has finally happened. Joaquin Phoenix is, at long last, an Oscar winner.

The moment came at Sunday night's 92nd annual Academy Awards, as Phoenix beat out Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood), and Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory) in the Best Actor category.

Phoenix won for his portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime in 2019's Joker.

Along with the Oscar statuette, Phoenix has also won Best Actor at this year's Screen Actor's Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes for his role in the dark comic book movie.

You can see a clip of Phoenix's speech in the tweet below:

The 2020 Academy Awards marked the fourth time Phoenix has been nominated for an acting Oscar, receiving a nomination in 2001 in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in Gladiator, and in 2006 Phoenix was nominated for Best Actor for Walk The Line, and again in 2013 for The Master.

Per Vanity Fair, Todd Phillips' bleak origin story of Joker was both a critical and box office hit, grossing over $1 billion worldwide.

Phoenix did give a shout out to Phillips in his acceptance speech, as well as thanking his fiancée, Oscar nominee Rooney Mara, who accompanied him to the prestigious ceremony.

The 45-year-old actor also took the opportunity to make an impassioned plea for human beings to stop fighting each other in his lengthy speech, as well as to stop plundering our natural resources, placing a particular emphasis on the cruelty involved in the dairy farming industry.

Phoenix admitted he was "part of the problem" during his BAFTAs acceptance speech:

Congratulations Joaquin!
