Madonna will be directing and co-writing her own biopic after weeks of teasing the project on social media.
In a statement, per the Independent, the 62-year-old said: "I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive."
The pop star is reportedly penning the film's script with Oscar winner Diablo Cody, who is best known for her screenplays for Juno and Jennifer's Body.
"There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision," Madonna continued.
At the time of writing, no release date or casting choices have been announced.
The film, which will be under Universal Pictures, is due to be produced by former Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal, who first worked with Madonna on the 1992 sports comedy, A League of Their Own.
According to the publication, Pascal described the upcoming biopic as "an absolute labour of love for me."

Madonna clearly has more than her musical chops. She previously directed two films; the 2008 comedy-drama, Filth and Wisdom, as well as the 2011 historical romance, WE.
Her acting credits include, Desperately Seeking Sunan, Evita and Dick Tracy.
Musical biopics have seen a surge in recent years, with notable successes including Bohemian Rhapsody, which is based on the origin story of Queens, and Sir Elton John's Rocketman.
It is unusual, however, for the protagonist of the feature to also sit in the director's chair.
