It has been four years since DC released their highly anticipated movie Suicide Squad... and I think we're all still trying to forget about it - including DC themselves.

Yes, despite being hyped as DC's version of the Avengers but with bad guys, the 2016 movie left audiences across the world bitterly disappointed, as the clunky dialogue, muddled plot, and thinly-written characters detracted from any of the film's positives.

In fact, Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal went on to heavily criticized the film saying, "In a word, Suicide Squad is trash. In two words, it's ugly trash."

Check out the new behind-the-scenes teaser video for 2021's The Suicide Squad:

However, the movie did have a few saving graces: most notable Margot Robbie as Joker's lovable lover, Harley Quinn.

In fact, Robbie's charming performance led to the DC character being ignited as a fan favorite and pop icon, with Robbie starring in her own spin-off sequel, Birds of Prey, and Kaley Cuoco voicing the Cupid of Crime in her own animated series.

But now, Margot Robbie is back as Harley Quinn, in the upcoming movie The Suicide Squad (yes, if you've ever needed more proof that a movie studio is trying to make audiences forget about their first attempt at a film, just look at DC putting 'The' in front of 'Suicide Squad'.)

And last night at the DC FanDome, the movie studio released a behind-the-scene teaser video looking at the new movie.

Alongside Robbie is a cast of incredible performers, such as Idris Elba, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, and Taika Waititi, but fans are perhaps most excited about seeing James Gunn take over from David Ayer as the franchise's new director.

Gunn is perhaps best known by comic book movie fans for directing the first two Guardians Of The Galaxy movies - and was snapped by DC after being fired by The Walt Disney Company.

Speaking of Gunn's impact on the upcoming movie, Robbie said in an interview with ComicBook.com:

"I can tell you that [The Suicide Squad is] going to be incredible. And again, it's just interesting to see what a different filmmaker makes of Gotham and these characters and Harley, really.

"I'm fascinated by what James Gunn finds interesting in her. [...Gunn is] such a comic book lover, so it's going to be rooted in the source material, which is always important to me."

And speaking about Quinn's evolution in the upcoming movie, Robbie said in a recent DC FanDome promo video:

"I always have such a ball playing Harley Quinn. Every time I’ve done it, I learn new things about her, and this movie’s no different.

"When Harley’s put in a different group of people, and put in a different place, you’re going to see different aspects of her personality coming out, depending on how she feels about those people or the things she’s doing. So you get to see new sides of Harley again, and she’s in a new group of people, a big group of people, and it’s insane. As always, it’s crazy fun."

Eagle-eyed fans of Robbie will also have noticed that Quinn is sporting a new tattoo in the promo video - see below:

The tattoo shows the words "Property Of No One" written around a jester hat and skull. Considering the first Suicide Squad movie focused so heavily on a Quinn being "Property of The Joker", this new inking serves as a visual reminder of her newfound freedom.

The Suicide Squad (I don't think I'll ever get over that name) is set to be released in the United States on August 6, 2021.
