Marlon Wayans has revealed that he believes a sequel to White Chicks is "necessary".

Wayans wrote and starred in the 2004 comedy alongside his brother Shawn, and sees the pair play two black FBI agents use whiteface to go undercover as sister Tiffany and Brittany Wilson in order to solve a kidnapping plot.

Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the movie went on to amass a huge fan following, as well as scooping over $113 million at the box office.

Now, in an interview with Variety, Wayans has stated that a follow-up movie has never been more "necessary".

"I think White Chicks 2 is necessary," Wayans said, adding: "I think we’ve tightened up so much that we need to loosen our ties a bit and laugh a little bit."

The 49-year-old continued: "I don’t think Hollywood understands what a juggernaut White Chicks 2 would be [...] And the world just keeps giving us more. White Chicks 2 is writing itself."

This is not the first time fans have been excited by the news of a possible sequel.

Back in 2009, Screenrant reported that a sequel had been given a go-ahead, but such developments never came into fruition.

And back in 2019, White Chicks co-star Terry Crews also sparked rumors during an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live.

Answering a fan question, Crews said: "I actually got with Shawn, and he was like, 'Man, we’re doing it. We’re getting it going. We're getting it going."

He added: "I’m staying in shape just for that movie. I've been working out for 15 years for me to do White Chicks 2."

However, Wayans later revealed that Crews was not supposed to leak the news. Taking to Instagram following Crews' appearance, Wayans shared an image of himself from the movie in a nervous state, and captioned the post:

"My face when @terrycrews tells the world #whitechicks2 is happening but we still don’t have a deal in place... now every fanworld wise dms excitedly “IS THIS TRUE”?! Um... NO! Not yet. #ohterry"

Regardless, I'm sure whenever a deal is in place, there will be many people who will made the sequel just as successful as the first.
